MOUNTain areas belong to the most sensitive regions, especially related to global changes, of our planet. Numerous questions in respect to their reaction on global climate change are still open and need further research. Although in general, MOUNTain areas are sparsely populated massive consequences crossing national boarders can be expected not only for the ecosystems, but also for the whole society. In order to adapt to the expected and projected climatic changes, transnational research is essential as a basis for sound decision making.
