Knowledge for Climate Foundation, The Netherlands

Acronym: KvK

Country: The Netherlands

Role in CIRCLE-2: Co-leader WP SHARE and co-leader Task 4.1

KvK is a research programme that aims to develop applied knowledge, through cooperation between the Dutch government, the business community and scientific research institutes, in order to ensure that long term decision making takes into account the impacts of climate change. The foundation Knowledge for Climate (Kennis voor Klimaat) receives subsidy from the Ministry of VROM to the amount of 50 million Euros. The participating consortia have to provide 50 million co-funding leading to a total of 100 million for a period of 5 years.

The project plan was created in close collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including the Ministries, regional and local governmental agencies, the private sector and NGOs. Consortium partners include nationally and internationally recognised institutes, securing the international position of the consortium. The lead institutes in the programme are the University of Utrecht (UU), Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR), Deltares, Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI), the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). In total over 70 partners are member of the programme consortium carrying out the projects. The ambition of the Knowledge for Climate programme is to build on current BSIK programmes (such as Climate changes Spatial Planning, Living with Water and Habiforum) and international research programmes and to make the knowledge and experience acquired available to areas outside the Netherlands.

Experience was gained by Foundation Climate changes Spatial Planning (KvR) in CIRCLE SSA and CA.
