Management Structure

Contractors Committee

The Contractors Committee consists of one representative of each of CIRCLE-2's partner organisations. It takes top level decisions such as the involvement of new consortium members or significant amendments to the project work plan.

The Contractors Committee meets annually at the project's Annual Progress Meeting.

Executive Board

The Executive Board (EB) is the principal governing and steering committee of CIRCLE-2 and will be responsible for the core operational and strategic management of the project.

The EB advises the Coordinator and Work package/Task Leaders in planning and implementing CIRCLE-2 activities. The EB ensures effective Work package integration, enforces required project decisions and monitors the overall progress of the Work packages against objectives and timescales. The EB ensures that the Work packages and Tasks are conducted in a coherent way and assures the project output's quality. The EB consists of representatives of the Coordinator (chair) and Work package Leaders.

The EB meets physically at regular intervals (typically 2 to 3 times a year). All other CIRCLE-2 consortium members may be requested to take part in EB meetings or to be involved in specific actions carried out by the EB.

To reduce travelling and environmental impact EB members are in close contact via telecommunication and whenever possible meetings are organised in combination with other planned events.

Advisory Board

The Advisory Board (AB) is CIRCLE-2's advisory committee and is established to increase efficiency and lower the risk of project failure. The AB provides the project with independent advice and relevant experience on several areas of Climate Change Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation (CCIVA) research. The AB consists of up to six experts of recognisable international experience related to CIRCLE-2's scope. AB interaction with the consortium will be facilitated by the Executive Board and enhanced via electronic communication and invitation to CIRCLE-2's meetings and events.

The AB support will typically fall into the following areas:

  • Analysis of CCIVA science-and-policy landscape including general research priorities.
  • Assessment of uncertainties and research gaps (e.g. fast-track alerts on emerging issues) and identification of long-term areas of interest (e.g. horizon scanning and landscape setting).
  • Identification and suggestion of possible links or synergies and communication with relevant international actors and institutions.
  • Review of CIRCLE-2's output quality and support project dissemination.

Coordinator

CIRCLE-2 is coordinated by the Foundation of the Faculty of Sciences - Lisbon University (FFCUL).
