PROVIA’S International Adaptation Conferences – 2012 Conference and invitation offers to host 3rd Conference in mid-2014

2012-01-19

The Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA) is a global initiative which aims to provide direction and coherence at the international level for research on vulnerability, impacts and adaptation (VIA). Launched with the support of leading scientists and decision-makers, PROVIA responds to the urgent call by the scientific community for a more cohesive and coordinated approach, and the critical need to harmonize, mobilize, and communicate the growing knowledge-base on VIA. To this end, PROVIA will act as a new and growing network of scientists, practitioners and decision-makers working towards identifying research gaps and meeting policy needs in climate change vulnerability, impact and adaptation research.

PROVIA co-organises a bi-annual series conferences called Adaptation Conferences that aim to be an international forum solely focused on climate adaptation. The first International Adaptation Conference took place in 2010 and was co-hosted by PROVIA, the Australia's National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility and the CSIRO Climate Adaptation Flagship. For more information on the 2010 International Adaptation Conference please see.

The second International Adaptation Conference, to take place in Tucson, Arizona, US, on 29-31 May 2012, follows on the success of the pioneering 2010 Climate Adaptation Futures Conference with nearly 1,000 participants from around the world. Inspired by this 1st conference the conference organisers (PROVIA and the University of Arizona) hope to build on the community that came together in Queensland and foster a connected, collaborative and creative international network of adaptation researchers, decision makers and interested citizens. The deadline for submissions of papers and posters is 30th January. More information on the 2012 International Adaptation Conference can be found here

PROVIA is now looking for offers to co-host the third International Adaptation Conference, which is planned for mid-2014. In case your institution is interested in co-hosting this conference please contact the Chair of PROVIA Scientific Steering Committee, Dr. Martin Parry at martin [at] mlparry.com.
